Pre-Holiday October Transition

The days are going by so fast and I'm trying to catch up with yesterday. The transformation of the Gulf Fritillary caterpillar we've been observing fittingly marks a transition into the holiday season. Last week, the first caterpillar emerged from its chrysalis as a pretty Passion Butterfly. I attempted to give the butterfly a bit of energy with some faux nectar but it showed no interest in my sweet concoction.

My blog absence can be contributed to my busier schedule but I have tried to keep up with my Facebook posts. Please join me on Facebook if you have a chance.

I'm happy to say that I have been working on a few custom orders that kept me away from my computer. While making sales brings me joy, it fulfills me to know that others enjoy my work enough to make a special request.

I have a few more projects to complete and hope to stay on top of the activities of the holiday months. Last year we never got around to carving our pumpkin and it sat outside on our porch for many months. Not this year!

Thanks for stopping by and bringing sunshine to my day. I'd love to hear how you're doing.

Creative Friends

Happy Aloha Friday!

I've had a very nice week. How about you?

Here are some beaded eagle charms that I've just completed as part of a custom request from a very special person. The beading method is brick stitch and I've used my favorite Miyuki Delica beads in size 11 to create these.

Though my shop is quite sparse now, I've gotten steady views thanks to Kim from 2 just B you, who added my banner to her blog's side bar. In addition to authoring a popular blog, Kim is also a successful Etsy shop owner. Her shop, just B you, offers a wonderful selection of handmade jewelry, accessories and yummy sweet treats. Kim has introduced me to and made be a part of her community (including the one below) and I am very grateful for her support.

I am a new member of the Etsy Team, Promoting Creative Friends, but I've been embraced by their kindness. This month I was in the October Shop Hop spotlight! Please visit the shop hop - join in and link up your online shop!

The Monsters in Our Garden

This morning I found monsters in our garden.

I found them on the Lilikoi (passion fruit) plant. For many days I've been wondering why the leaves were full of holes and assumed it was my black thumb in action again, but upon close inspection I spotted a small prickly caterpillar munching a stalk. Then I found two and three and now four of these spiny fellas.

My web search identified these as Gulf Fritillaries or passion butterflies. You can read more about them here and see them as butterflies. This is the first time I've ever seen caterpillars such as these, but according to the article, these butterflies are quite abundant on the islands.

I hope the passion fruit vine will have enough leaves to feed these hungry hungry caterpillars because I'm excited to see these monsters transform into beautiful butterflies.

It's going to be a great day!
